«Opening encyclopaedia of Russian draughts with drawn opening moves» is the second book on Russian draughts in which the openings are taken from the official FMJD drawing table, and it is the logical continuation of «Opening encyclopaedia of flying draughts», which came out a year earlier, in 2014.
This book brings together into a system, and analyses thoroughly, all 124 positions from part 1 of the official FMJD drawing table (columns I–IV), strictly systematised into 7 classes of position types:
Class 1 A3-B4. 30 positions.
Class 2 C3-B4. 20 positions.
Class 3 C3-D4. 20 positions.
Class 4 E3-D4. 14 positions.
Class 5 E3-F4. 16 positions.
Class 6 G3-F4. 5 positions.
Class 7 G3-H4. 19 positions.
Each class also contains subclasses of positions, depending on Black’s move.
The analysed lines run on average from 10 to 20 moves and are laid out to make them easier to take in visually, with indentation showing the nesting depth of every variation. The diagrams are indented in the same way.
It is important to note that the most frequently occurring standard positionsare marked with the abbreviation SP, just as in the «Opening encyclopaedia of flying draughts».
For the first time the book analyses and systematises the main positions of the class: «Locked pieces», which arise frequently out of many openings.
Also interesting is that the book shows where the positions of many openings coincide with one another with colours reversed, and marks the coincidences with classic openings and with flying draughts.
Every opening is also given an evaluation and the opening’s number on the Gambler playing site, so that these openings can be practised. Since a new FMJD drawing table is planned, we have included the main standard positions that are characteristic of many openings from that table and from classic draughts. The book pays particular attention to the standard gambit positions, which are analysed both with White to move and with Black to move. Under each diagram, the result with White to move is given at the bottom left and the result with Black to move at the bottom right.
In working on the book we used all the draughts literature collected in the Edeon superbase of 120 books and the Edeon program itself with all its databases.
In their work the authors of the opening encyclopaedia relied mainly on games from world championships and other significant tournaments played by the leading grandmasters and masters of today, such as: N. Struchkov, A. Valyuk, Y. Kondrachenko, G. Kolesov, S. Belosheev, Vl. Yegorov, Y. Korolev and others.
Every analysis of Russian draughts available to the authors at the present day was used.
The book is intended for all lovers of draughts, from beginners to grandmasters, and serves as an excellent reference work.
